ARTWORK RECOMMENDATIONS

  • We recommend using Adobe Illustrator (Macintosh or PC), or CorelDraw to generate label artwork. These programs are better suited for flexographic prepress production.  We do not accept Adobe/Macromedia Freehand files.

  • Page layout programs such as Quark Xpress are not recommended. InDesign files are not accepted at this time. Programs such as Word and PowerPoint are not acceptable for pre-press production, and will need to be totally recreated. Palco can recreate these files for you at an additional charge.

  • Photoshop files are acceptable. However, we do not recommend creating your text using Photoshop. When printed, this text will likely appear blurry.

  • Please check with your sales representative for more information on file formats.

  • Include and link all images.

  • Image resolution needs to be 300 dpi for color images, 600 dpi for line art. Lower resolution images can be used, but label quality will suffer.

  • For full-color images, we can print CMYK mode only - all RGB images will be converted, which can cause extreme shifts in color.

  • Try to avoid process builds on type smaller than 10 pt.

  • Include a color proof of image or attach a PDF/JPG for viewing.

  • Include ALL fonts with file, or convert fonts to "paths/outlines/curves.” Please note that Palco will not be able to edit any of your text when fonts are converted. Any changes or corrections will need to be returned to the original creator for editing.

  • Any color screened to lower than 5% could be completely scrubbed off the printing plate and therefore off of your design. This affects things like glows, gradients, drop shadows, screened 4-color process images and soft transitions from one color to another.

  • A full bleed is when the color “bleeds” off the label. If your label design or background color is intended to cover the entire surface of the label, please note that we need a 1/16" (0.0625") bleed around each edge of the label. For example, if you have a 3” x 3” label where the color bleeds off the edges, you should size your design to 3.125" x 3.125" as this ensures a 1/16” bleed around the entire label.

  • It is also wise to leave at least 1/16" (0.0625") of clear space (i.e. no significant design elements or text) inside the die-line to allow for slight shifts during die-cutting.
